INDIGEPRENEUR
"Indigepreneur" is a term that embodies the fusion of Indigenous talent and entrepreneurial spirit. It represents individuals from Indigenous communities who harness their unique opportunities, traditional knowledge, and innovative ideas to create thriving businesses. Indigepreneurs are not only committed to economic empowerment but also to preserving and promoting their identity through their ventures.
The Native communities in Mnisota are home to diverse artists and artistic expression that include dancers, painters, beaders, quillers, weavers, musicians, actors, performers, carvers, game designers, graphic designers, tattooists, photographers, filmmakers, and more. These individuals and groups are the innovators of new concepts, styles, and techniques of Native cultural revitalization happening today, and represent the essence of indigenuity, brilliance, and generosity.
The Mnisota Native Artists Alliance (MNAA) is a program of the Minnesota Indigenous Business Alliance (MNIBA) that is Native-led, informed, and designed to advance the right to develop, create, and protect the past, present, and future expressions of Native art, while calling for equitable access to the resources needed to sustain and grow a strong Native arts economy.
Native artists, culture bearers, and organizations serving Native artists, have been for decades working to hold institutions, and the state government accountable and have demanded action, transparency, and equitable access to funding.
We are experiencing a time in history where we are being heard and are lifting-up and providing structure for movement towards a Native arts-integrated, culturally sustaining, and equitable access to funding opportunities and practices grounded in Cultural Lifeways.
